Oregano is an herb that is found in a lot of kitchens. After all, your tomato sauce wouldn’t taste the same
without it. So, there are a lot of culinary schools that would have to modify a lot of their recipes because of
it.
Oregano Essential Oil has very little to do with cooking though. Instead, it is a very powerful, yet natural,
anti-fungal, anti-parasitic, antibacterial agent. The Greeks have known about this for thousands of years. This is
because Oregano grows in the remote mountains of Greece, Turkey and Crete. Greeks began experimenting with this
plant and found it to be so amazing that they nicknamed it “The delight of the mountains.”
Once discovered by the ancient Greeks it began to be naturally harvested. Whenever the oil was extracted from
the plants, the Greeks realized that it was the source of the plants’ medicinal value. This was discovered whenever
they began to sprinkle oregano essential oil on food. They noticed that food spoiled slower because the bacteria
that would ruin their food were being impacted.
Oregano essential oil contains a very impressive group of vitamins and minerals. These include Vitamin A,
Vitamin C, boron, calcium, copper, iron, magnesium, manganese, niacin, potassium and zinc. There are also two
important phenols in oregano: carvacrol and thymol. These are quite effective in treating what makes us sick.
Today we are continuing to discover the incredible abilities that oregano essential oil has. Naturopaths use
this to treat viral and bacterial infections by having their patients inhale it into their lungs and circulatory
system via aromatherapy. This is because the vitamins and minerals will fill your internal system, which will make
your immune system stronger and more efficient.
Some of the other things that oregano essential oil has been effective in treating include allergies, colds,
fevers, the flu and sinusitis. Fungus, as well as viral and yeast infections have all been cured as well. Staph,
strep and ecoli are also killed off by the potent anti-fungal powers of this essential oil, which act in a way that
is similar to antibiotic therapy. The list doesn’t stop there either. Arthritis, bronchitis, digestive issues, gum
disease, headaches and muscle pain have also been controlled with this essential oil.
You can also apply this essential oil as a topical agent. Herein it can be used to treat athlete’s foot, insect
bites, psoriasis, ringworm, rosacea by simply mixing together a combination of oil of oregano and either coconut or
olive oil.
Whenever you choose to use oregano essential oil it is important to make sure that you let your primary
physician know that you are using it. This is important because you want to be sure that your current medications
are compatible with it. Most of the time there won’t be any side effects but it is still best that your doctor know
about it. You may be surprised to find that a lot of twenty-first century doctors will tell you that the Greeks
knew how to cure a lot of illnesses long before they ever did.
